How free postal entry routes work
A free postal route is an alternative method defined by the operator's terms. It does not make the paid ticket price zero, and the instructions must be checked on the live operator site.

Free route does not mean zero ticket price
A competition can have a paid online entry price and a separate free postal method. Competition Checker keeps those facts distinct. The paid price remains the price shown for the normal online route; the existence of a postal route must not turn the whole competition into a GBP 0 listing.
A genuinely free giveaway is different again. It may be displayable as a free-entry competition, but it should not enter paid Budget Odds rankings because dividing a budget by zero would create a misleading result.
Follow the operator's current instructions exactly
Postal routes commonly specify the required wording, entrant details, postal address, postage method, arrival deadline and limits on entries. These details can differ by operator and competition. Competition Checker may highlight that a route exists, but it does not submit the entry or validate whether a particular envelope will be accepted.
Use the operator's live terms, not a screenshot or an old set of instructions. Allow enough time for delivery and retain your own record of what you sent. Ask the operator directly if any requirement is unclear.
How the route affects transparency
Clear, easy-to-find instructions are useful transparency evidence. Missing or vague wording can reduce confidence even where other competition fields are strong. Competition Checker describes the clarity of the available information; it does not provide a legal ruling on the route.
The route is one part of the comparison. Ticket cap, draw timing, prize terms, extension rules and winner information still matter. A clear postal route does not remove the need to review the full terms.
- Confirm the correct competition name or reference.
- Check the arrival deadline rather than relying only on the postmark date.
- Check whether one entry per envelope or another limit applies.
- Never send payment details through a route that is described as free.
Use the label as a prompt to verify
When Competition Checker shows a free or postal entry label, follow the source link and read the operator's official wording. If no trusted route evidence is available, the site should say that the position is unclear rather than invent instructions.
Participation should remain within your means whether an entry is paid or free. Postage, time and personal information are still real considerations.
